Recent approaches of nanotechnology for combating the environmental effect of climate change
Abstract
Recent advancements in nanotechnology have emerged as pivotal tools in addressing the multifaceted environmental challenges posed by climate change. This abstract highlights innovative nanotechnology approaches that contribute to mitigating climate change impacts through carbon capture, renewable energy enhancement, pollution remediation, and sustainable agriculture. Nanomaterials, such as graphene, carbon nanotubes, and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), have demonstrated exceptional efficiency in carbon dioxide (CO₂) capture and sequestration. These materials possess high surface areas and tunable porosity, enabling them to effectively adsorb CO₂ from industrial emissions and the atmosphere. Research has shown that integrating these nanomaterials into existing carbon capture technologies can significantly improve their efficiency and reduce costs. In the realm of renewable energy, nanotechnology is revolutionizing solar cells and batteries. Nanostructured materials enhance the light absorption and conversion efficiency of photovoltaic cells, while nanomaterials in batteries can lead to faster charging times and increased storage capacity. These innovations not only promote the adoption of clean energy sources but also reduce reliance on fossil fuels, thereby decreasing greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, nanosensors are being developed to monitor environmental pollutants in real time, providing crucial data for timely interventions. Furthermore, in sustainable agriculture, nanotechnology facilitates the development of smart fertilizers and pesticides that enhance crop yield while minimizing environmental impact. By enabling targeted delivery and controlled release, these nanomaterials reduce chemical runoff and promote soil health.
