Abstract

Digital banking in India has grown rapidly over the last decade, driven by government initiatives, innovations from fintech and banks, and large-scale platforms such as UPI. This paper synthesizes secondary data and prior studies to evaluate the economic, social, technological, and regulatory impacts of digital banking in India. Key findings show dramatic increases in digital payment volumes and financial inclusion, improvements in efficiency and transparency, and new liquidity and cybersecurity challenges that require targeted policy responses. Recommendations include strengthening digital literacy, enhancing cybersecurity frameworks, refining liquidity rules for digital deposits, and continuing public–private collaboration. (Data sources include NPCI, RBI, Ministry of Finance, PwC, IBEF, Reuters and select industry reports.)
