Abstract

A study on the effect of host phenology on the incidence of mango fruit flies under the Saurashtra region was carried out during the year 2018-19 to 2019-20. Results revealed that the highest peak incidence of fruit flies was recorded in the last week the May (22nd SMW) with an average of 85.90 ± 17.14, 80.60 ± 39.15, and 87.20 ± 19.96; fruit flies/trap/month in Talala, Sasan Gir, and Vanthali, respectively during the year 2018-19. Whereas, during the year 2019-20 highest peak incidence was recorded in 1st week of June (23nd SMW) with an average of the 0 ± 23.75, 83.20 ± 32.61, and 96.00 ± 30.23 fruit flies/trap/month in Talala, Sasan Girr, and Vanthali, respectively. Overall fruit fly incidence in both the years 2018-19 and 2019-20 can be concluded that the seasonal activity of the fruit fly population was synchronized with different host phenological stages. Thus, the peak incidence of the pest was observed in last the week of May and the first week of June (22nd to 23rd SMW) and it was synchronized with fruit maturity to the first-week of post-harvest stage of the host crop.
