Abstract

This study aimed to identify the training needs of agricultural extension workers and their relationship to some personal, functional, and communication variables in Salah Al-Din Governorate, Iraq. The goal was to provide a scientific basis that contributes to planning future training programs and raising the efficiency of extension performance. The study adopted the descriptive analytical method as it was suitable for the nature of the research and its objectives. The research population included all agricultural extension workers in the Salah Al-Din Governorate Agriculture Directorate and its affiliated departments and agricultural units, totaling [854] employees. A stratified proportional random sample of [265] respondents was selected. Data were collected using a questionnaire prepared for this purpose, which included two sections; the first included personal, social, and functional variables, while the second section was dedicated to measuring training needs in some areas of agricultural extension work. Appropriate statistical methods were used, such as the arithmetic mean, standard deviation, correlation coefficients (Pearson and Spearman), and the (t) test to analyze the data. The results showed that the majority of respondents fell within the category of moderate training needs, indicating a training gap that requires attention. The results also revealed significant correlations between training needs and educational attainment, years of service, participation in training courses, interaction with farmers, and job satisfaction. However, no significant correlations were found with some of the other variables. The study concluded that improving the efficiency of agricultural extension workers requires a precise scientific identification of training needs. It recommended the development of specialized and continuous training programs, encouraging workers to participate in professional activities and social organizations, and improving the work environment and incentives to contribute to raising the level of extension performance and achieving agricultural development goals.
