Abstract

India hosts the world’s largest tribal population, largely dependent on agriculture and forest-based livelihoods. Due to marginal landholdings and low productivity, Non-Timber Forest Products significantly support income. Understanding factors influencing adoption of forest-based livelihoods is essential for sustainable development. Correlation analysis showed that education, knowledge, economic motivation, resource use, income, market orientation, social participation, and cosmopoliteness significantly influence adoption of forest-based livelihood practices, while age, gender, landholding, occupation, and attitude showed no significant effect.
