Abstract

Performance appraisal systems play a crucial role in evaluating employee performance and enhancing satisfaction levels within organizations. In higher education institutions, effective appraisal mechanisms are essential for motivating faculty and administrative staff, improving performance, and ensuring institutional quality. The present study aims to evaluate performance appraisal systems and examine their impact on employee satisfaction in higher education institutions in Bangalore. A descriptive and analytical research design was adopted for the study. Primary data were collected through a structured questionnaire administered to faculty members and administrative staff working in selected higher education institutions in Bangalore. A sample of 50 respondents was selected using convenience sampling. Secondary data were collected from journals, books, and institutional reports. Statistical tools such as percentage analysis, mean and standard deviation, correlation, and regression analysis were used for data analysis. The findings reveal that transparency, fairness, feedback mechanisms, and linkage of appraisal outcomes with rewards significantly influence employee satisfaction. The study concludes that well-structured and transparent performance appraisal systems positively impact employee satisfaction and recommends strengthening feedback, training, and communication practices to enhance the effectiveness of appraisal systems in higher education institutions.
