Effectiveness of Matritav Ki Tayari module versus routine care on postpartum stress among primipara mothers in a tertiary care hospital in western Maharashtra: A Comparative Study
Abstract
Background: Primipara mothers are at higher risk of postpartum stress due to lack of prior maternal experience, limited coping strategies, and inadequate social support. Aim: To compare the effectiveness of a structured educational module—Matritav Ki Tayari—versus routine postnatal care on postpartum stress levels among primipara mothers. Objectives of the study • To compare the level of stress in experimental and control group • To find out the association between stress level and the selected demographic variables among primipara mothers. • To assess the level of stress among primipara mothers during hospital stay. Methods: A total of 50 participants were selected and equally divided into an experimental group(n= 25) and a control group (n = 25). Data were collected on financial status and stress levels using structured tools. Stress scores were analyzed using descriptive statistics (mean, median, standard deviation) and inferential statistics, including Chi-square tests, Fisher’s exact test, and the Mann– Whitney U test. Results: In the first assessment, 56% of the experimental group showed minimal stress compared to 4% in the control group, while 96% of the control group reported mild to moderate stress. In the second assessment, 100% of the experimental group reported only mild to moderate stress, while 32% of the control group continued to experience high stress. The differences between groups were statistically significant (?² = 16.095, p < 0.001; ?² = 9.524, p = 0.002) confirmed significant reductions in stress scores among the experimental group compared to the control group. Conclusion: The intervention was highly effective in reducing stress among participants in the experimental group compared to the control group. These findings highlight the importance of structured stress management interventions and support their integration into health promotion and psychological well-being programs.
