Abstract

Pain remains a prevalent clinical problem that significantly affects quality of life, and although conventional analgesics are effective, their adverse effects have encouraged the search for safer, plant-based alternatives. Artocarpus lacucha has been traditionally used for various medicinal purposes, the present study to evaluate the analgesic potential of its seed extract. Seeds of Artocarpus lacucha were collected, authenticated, shade-dried, and subjected to ethanolic extraction, yielding a 7.45% extract. Preliminary phytochemical screening confirmed the presence of flavonoids, carbohydrates, proteins and amino acids, saponins, and sterols, suggesting the possibility of bioactive constituents with analgesic properties. The analgesic activity of the extract was assessed in Swiss albino mice using Eddy’s hot plate method. Animals were divided into 4 groups: a control group receiving vehicle, two test groups receiving the extract at doses of 100 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg, and a standard group treated with diclofenac sodium (10 mg/kg). Reaction time to thermal stimulus was recorded at 30, 60, and 90 minutes after administration. The 200 mg/kg dose significantly increased reaction time at all observation periods (p
