Abstract

The present study seeks to identify differences between the components of physical fitness among first-year female students attending College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, using standard scores in order to standardize test results and allow for objective comparisons. The researcher used descriptive method and comparative study. The sample in our study included first-year female students, who were divided based on their BMI levels (underweight, normal weight and overweight) as per the defined categories. Research instruments included measurements of height and weight (to calculate body mass index, BMI) in addition to a battery of tests assessing several health- and performance-related components of physical fitness covering aspects like muscular strength, speed, agility, and endurance. To facilitate comparison between variables, raw scores were normalized to z-scores. Differences in some components of physical fitness were statistically significant among BMI categories, where normal weight individuals exceeded underweight and overweight individuals in a number of physical variables. The findings underline just how critical it is to keep BMI in the normal range, since that's associated with better fitness. It also suggests the need for training programs and health education to enhance their physical fitness components help them keep a balanced body.
