Abstract

The National Education Policy 2020 heralds a transformative shift in education in India, particularly with regard to the use of Educational Technology for reforming teacher education. This study explores the role of EdTech in transforming pre-service and in-service teacher preparation to prepare them in line with NEP 2020’s vision towards competency based, inclusive, future-ready education system. The paper adopts a descriptive and analytical research design, based on secondary data from policy documents, government reports, and scholarly articles, to analyse key provisions like the establishment of the National Educational Technology Forum, promotion of digital infrastructure such as DIKSHA and SWAYAM, among others. The results show that EdTech increases access to quality training, encourages digital literacy, enables personalised and blended learning models, as well as encourage learner-centred pedagogies. It also improves assessment systems through data-informed feedback and supports collaborative professional learning communities. Unfortunately, the effective implementation of these approaches has been stymied by digital infrastructure deficiencies, the digital divide, lack of faculty training opportunities, financing issues, and concerns about cybersecurity. It discusses the strengthening of digital pedagogies in curricula, enhanced connectivity and infrastructure for ICT-enabled learning methods, sustained capacity building through professional development programs, and encouraging localized versions of digital content. In summary, Educational Technology plays a crucial role in revolutionizing teacher education under NEP 2020 by promoting innovation, accessibility, equity, and excellence within the Indian educational framework.
