Abstract

The rapid integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the pervasive influence of social media have fundamentally altered the landscape of global mental health, with distinct manifestations in the Indian subcontinent. This research paper investigates contemporary psychological problems, specifically depression, anxiety, and digital dependency across three life stages: teenagers, adults, and the elderly. By synthesising current longitudinal data and clinical trials from 2024 to 2026, the study highlights how algorithmic engagement and social comparison exacerbate mental health deterioration in the Indian context. Furthermore, it evaluates the efficacy of AI-based digital therapeutics (DTx) and digital public infrastructure (DPI) in bridging the significant mental health care gap in India. The findings suggest that while technology presents substantial risks, its strategic application offers a scalable pathway for personalised, culturally nuanced mental health support.
