Design of junior high school English reading teaching activities based on the perspective of activity-based English learning
Abstract
The English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education (2022 Edition) advocates the activity-oriented English learning concept, yet the current junior high school English reading classes are troubled by cramming and fragmented teaching methods. Taking He Lost His Arm But Kept Climbing from Unit 1 of Grade 8 Volume 2 published by People's Education Press as the teaching content, this paper designs a reading course based on the activity-oriented concept, following the three activity levels of comprehension and learning, application and practice, and transfer and innovation, and integrating the Task-based Language Teaching approach and the Pre-reading-While-reading-Post-reading (PWP) teaching model. The research aims to explore the practical path of applying this concept to junior high school English reading teaching. Practice has shown that this course design can promote the integrated development of students' linguistic competence, cultural literacy and thinking ability, and also provide a reference for teachers to conduct teaching evaluation and reflection, as well as improve their teaching skills.
