Abstract

Ethical accountability among teachers plays a crucial role in fostering positive learning environments, strengthening student-teacher relationships, and enhancing overall educational quality. This study examines how humane education approaches adopted by school leaders in Ningxia, China, contribute to promoting ethical responsibility and moral professionalism among teachers. Humane education emphasizes empathy, compassion, respect, social responsibility, and ethical awareness, which can significantly influence institutional culture and teaching practices. Using a mixed-methods approach, the research explores leadership strategies that integrate humane values into school governance, professional development, and teacher evaluation systems. Data were collected through surveys, interviews, and document analysis involving school administrators and teachers across selected primary and secondary schools in Ningxia. The findings reveal that school leaders who prioritize humane education—such as fostering respectful communication, promoting emotional intelligence, encouraging reflective teaching, and modeling ethical conduct—positively impact teachers’ moral decision-making, professional integrity, and commitment to students’ well-being. The study further highlights that supportive leadership practices, including mentorship programs, ethical training workshops, and inclusive policy frameworks, strengthen teachers’ sense of accountability and responsibility toward learners, colleagues, and the broader community. Additionally, humane leadership contributes to reduced workplace conflicts, improved teacher motivation, and enhanced trust within school environments. By demonstrating the practical benefits of humane education leadership, this research provides valuable insights for policymakers, school administrators, and educational stakeholders seeking to cultivate ethical school cultures. The study recommends integrating humane education principles into leadership training, teacher professional development, and national education frameworks to promote sustainable ethical accountability and holistic educational excellence in China and beyond.
