Desks To Board Room Glass Tops Women’s Leadership Journey - A Tale of Future from God’s Own Country
Abstract
Education has played a central role in shaping the political and social landscape of Kerala more than in any other state in the Indian subcontinent. Historically, Kerala has recorded remarkably high literacy rates among women across generations. This sustained emphasis on female education is one of the key reasons why the state continues to witness a high rate of youth migration to overseas countries for higher education. From the early stages of formal schooling, the Kerala government has consistently prioritized women’s education. Special recognition and institutional support for female education were emphasized from the tenure of Late Joseph Mundassery, the first Minister for Education and Cooperation in Kerala. His policies laid a strong foundation for inclusive and progressive educational reforms in the state. Building on this legacy, educated women in Kerala have increasingly entered entrepreneurial and professional domains, competing successfully at global standards. This article explores the journey of growing prominence and impact of women in Kerala’s entrepreneurial ecosystem in the contemporary era.
