The phytochemical study of Holarrhena antidysenterica grown in vindhyan region
Abstract
The Holarrhena antidysenterica plant has been recognized in Ayurvedic medicine as a powerful remedy for various ailments since ancient times. Different parts of this plant have been utilized for diverse medicinal purposes. The current study focuses on analyzing the seeds of this plant. Both water and ethanol extracts were prepared from the seeds to evaluate their antioxidant and phytochemical properties using appropriate methods. The free radical scavenging activity was assessed through the DPPH method. The phytochemical analysis included measuring total polyphenols, flavonoids, tannins, and ascorbic acid content. The results revealed that ethanol extracts of the seeds demonstrated higher activity across all parameters. However, the ascorbic acid levels were relatively low in both water and ethanol extracts. Overall, the seeds of Holarrhena antidysenterica exhibit significant antioxidant properties, making them potentially beneficial for managing diabetes mellitus and other diseases. Additional studies have substantiated the efficacy of this plant in treating various health conditions.
