Abstract

Serverless computing represents a fundamental shift in the way applications are developed, deployed, and managed. By abstracting away the need for server infrastructure management, it allows developers to focus on writing code without worrying about resource provisioning or scaling. This paradigm shift is primarily realized through Function-as-a-Service (FaaS), which enables event-driven execution of code in response to triggers, dynamically scaling based on demand. The serverless model offers several advantages, including reduced operational costs, improved scalability, and enhanced agility in application development. However, while serverless computing offers numerous benefits, it also introduces challenges such as vendor lock-in, limited control over the execution environment, and potential security concerns. This paper aims to explore the core principles of serverless computing and FaaS, highlight the benefits and drawbacks, and examine the impact on both developers and organizations. Additionally, it discusses the evolving ecosystem of serverless platforms and their integration with cloud-native technologies. Through a comprehensive review of the current landscape, the paper seeks to provide an in-depth understanding of how serverless computing is reshaping cloud services and its potential for the future of software development.
