Comparative study of video-based versus mannequin-based learning on intramuscular injection competency in third-year MBBS students at PMT, Loni
Abstract
Background: Intramuscular (IM) injection is a core clinical skill in undergraduate medical education. While mannequin-based demonstrations are traditionally used, video-based learning offers a flexible, learner-centered approach. Comparative evidence on their relative effectiveness in MBBS students is limited. Aim and Objectives: To compare the effectiveness of video-based learning versus mannequin-based demonstration in improving knowledge of IM injection among third-year MBBS students. Materials and Methods: A quasi-experimental pre-test/post-test study was conducted in the Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care at Dr. Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil Pravara Rural Hospital, Loni. One hundred third-year MBBS students were randomly assigned to the video-based learning group (Group A) or the mannequin-based demonstration group (Group B). Knowledge of IM injection was assessed using a validated 10-item questionnaire. Data were analyzed with ?² and t-tests. Results: Baseline knowledge was comparable. Post-intervention, Group A scored higher overall (8.2±1.1) than Group B (7.1±1.3; p
