Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the dimensions of sustainable tourism in Peru and Ecuador through a literature review of research conducted between 2020 and 2025. The main purpose was to identify the most prominent dimensions (environmental, sociocultural, and economic) and how they are presented in recent scientific literature, as well as to highlight trends, discrepancies, and gaps in their treatment. To this end, a qualitative narrative review methodology with a descriptive-interpretive approach and a non-experimental design was applied. The review was based on academic sources indexed in databases. The results show that the environmental dimension emphasizes the need to protect ecosystems and preserve cultural resources; the sociocultural dimension values local identity and the active role of communities; while the economic dimension recognizes the role of tourism in generating employment that improves the living conditions of the population. However, some authors point out that tourism is developed primarily from an economic perspective, neglecting other approaches to sustainable development. In conclusion, the most addressed dimension was the economic one, while the least addressed was the environmental approach.
