Madagascar
Abstract
Christianity in Madagascar began in the 17th century but gained momentum in the 19th century through the work of various missionary societies, such as the London Missionary Society. These missions introduced the Roman alphabet, translated the Bible into Malagasy, and established schools, contributing to the growth of Christianity despite initial resistance and subsequent persecution. Revival movements have played a significant role in shaping Malagasy Christianity, fostering spiritual renewal and inculturation within existing Protestant churches.
