Réunion
Abstract
Réunion’s religious landscape is the product of migrations over the past 350 years, resulting in a diverse environment. Although Roman Catholicism is the dominant religion due to its establishment as the official religion during French colonization, various other religions such as Hinduism, Islam, and Buddhism have been introduced through migration. The end of the colonial period led to globalization, identity affirmation, and secularization, encouraging the emergence of non-institutionalized religions and ancestor worship.
