Abstract

Prior to colonization, many African communities were organized as kingdoms with intricate trade routes and interactions. Colonialism disrupted these existing structures by imposing foreign rule, exploiting resources, and creating artificial boundaries that disregarded pre-existing ethnic and social divisions. The struggle for independence led to the rise of African Independent Churches (AICs) and national political movements, yet post-independence, African governments faced challenges including inherited colonial boundaries, Cold War politics, and economic policies. Despite these challenges, the continent has seen economic growth, increased political representation for women, and efforts towards reconciliation and democracy.
