Mission and Evangelism
Abstract
The expansion of Christianity in Africa, particularly during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, was facilitated by European and North American missionaries who established churches and institutions. Missionaries implemented a fourfold strategy centred on evangelism, education, healthcare, and industrial services to transform communities. Education played a pivotal role, as literacy initiatives aimed to enable people to read the Bible and promoted writing and arithmetic, resulting in the establishment of diverse educational institutions. Contemporary issues include leadership, the roles of youth and women in the church, and the phenomenon of African churches dispatching missionaries to Europe and North America.
