Cyprus
Abstract
Christianity in Cyprus traces its roots to the evangelism of Saints Paul and Barnabus. As of 2015, Orthodox Christians made up 65.7% of the total population, and other Christians, including Roman Catholics, Maronites, and Armenians, constitute an additional 4.8%. The Church of Cyprus, which is an autocephalous Greek Orthodox Church, plays a key role in many Cypriot Christians’ social lives and access to education. Monasteries form an important pillar of Orthodox spirituality, and Cyprus has 9 active foundations for men and 16 for women.
