Anglicans
Abstract
Anglicanism came to the Middle East in the early nineteenth century through British missionaries who were influenced both by colonialism and the Evangelical Revival. These efforts were concentrated primarily in Palestine, Egypt, and Iran. Today, the Province of the Episcopal Church in Jerusalem and the Middle East consists of the four dioceses of Jerusalem, Egypt, Iran, and Cyprus and the Gulf. There are around 50,000 Anglicans in 200 congregations. Anglicanism has grown proportionally in North Africa in recent decades, from 1.8% of all Christians in 1970 to 5.4% of all Christians in 2015.
