A Demographic Profile of Christianity in East and Southeast Asia
Abstract
East and Southeast Asia are two of the most religiously diverse regions in the world. Christianity in East and Southeast Asia has been on a gradual increase since 1970, from 5% of the population then to 12% in 2020. Southeast Asia has been heavily influenced by outside powers, from Muslim Arabs in the thirteenth century (Indonesia, the Philippines) to Portuguese, Spanish, Dutch, French and British imperialists beginning in the sixteenth century. Christians are projected to grow faster than any other religious group (1.4% per year)
