Abstract

Theological discourse in East and Southeast Asia exhibits a distinct character, shaped by the region's diverse religious and cultural landscape and its history of engagement with Christianity. Asian theologians engage with various resources, including traditional philosophies like Confucianism and Buddhism, alongside biblical texts and Western theological concepts. Christological reflections emphasize the relevance of Jesus's teachings and life to the Asian context, exploring themes of suffering, solidarity, and neighborly love, as exemplified in the works of theologians like T.C. Chao and Kosuke Koyama. Theological developments in East and Southeast Asia underscore the importance of contextualization, interreligious dialogue, and engagement with socio-political realities, offering unique perspectives on Christian thought and practice within a global context.
