Colonial and Postcolonial Context
Abstract
The arrival and expansion of Christianity in East and Southeast Asia are inextricably linked to Western colonialism, leading to a complex and often fraught relationship between faith, nationalism, and cultural identity. Postcolonial realities reveal the enduring legacies of colonialism, including hybridity and the continued influence of Western economic and political forces. The persistence of religious intolerance, political restrictions, and economic disparities underscores the need for ongoing critical reflection on the role of Christianity in promoting social justice, peace, and interfaith understanding in the region.
