Abstract

the text introduces readers to the topic of this special issue, advocating for a renewed engagement with forms and ideas related to British Marxism within the field of British cultural studies. It sketches Marxism's relationship with the study of culture in general and with British cultural studies in particular, and argues that the material and social conditions in Britain today make it especially important to find and develop new Marxist-influenced ways to analyse the ever-growing social injustice and the severe political crises. It then gives a short overview of how the various contributions to this issue propose to address such need, what theoretical choices and combinations they make, and what insights they develop from applying (parts of) British Marxist theory.
