Abstract
The article offers a new perspective on two fictional works of Libuše Moníková and her essay by analyzing motifs and narrative strategies that can be understood as Westsplaining avant la lettre. It aims to reinterpret the novels Die Fassade and Treibeis in connection with her essay Kirschfeste situating them within the concept of Mitteleuropa (Central Europe) and to explore how they potentially transcend or even undermine the East-West-Division.Furthermore, the article demonstrates how expanding the corpus of texts associated with Westsplaining by including earlier texts on similar topics contributes to a better understanding of the genesis of this perspective.
