IRAN-PAKISTAN COOPERATION WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS (THE UNITED NATIONS, THE ORGANIZATION OF ISLAMIC COOPERATION)
Abstract
This article analyzes the cooperative relations between Iran and Pakistan that developed within the framework of international organizations against the backdrop of geopolitical transformations taking place in the Middle and Near East since the second half of the twentieth century. The main objective of the study is a comprehensive examination of Iran-Pakistan relations within the framework of the United Nations and the Organization of the Islamic Conference (later the Organization of Islamic Cooperation) from political, military-security, and economic perspectives. The analysis shows that Iran and Pakistan viewed international organizations as an important diplomatic platform for the development of bilateral relations; however, their cooperation was largely situational and interest-based in nature. Regional instability, differences in strategic priorities, and the influence of third actors limited the deepening of this cooperation at the institutional level. Ultimately, although international organizations served as mechanisms for dialogue and coordination in Iran-Pakistan relations, they did not become a decisive factor in the formation of sustainable and deep integration.
