Divide and Rule – A Case report on Hemi Section
Abstract
Periodontal regeneration is achievable by periodontal regeneration procedures. But in some cases where periodontal regeneration is not possible, we have to switch over to resective procedures to achieve a reduction in pocket depth and for easy maintenance. Resection may involve supporting bone or sometimes we can perform root resection or a part of a tooth itself. Hemisection is one such procedure where we can remove the half of the tooth along with root. It is commonly performed in mandibular first molars. Even though it is an old procedure, we can achieve good results when your case selection is proper. Here in our case report, I am going to describe about a periodontitis patient whose mandibular 1st molar was treated with hemisection followed by a fixed partial denture involving 1st and 2nd molar. Key Words: Endo-perio lesion, Hemisection, Periodontitis, Root resection
