Abstract

Objective This study mainly explores the effect of positive psychological intervention on the psychosocial adjustment of breast cancer patients of childbearing age. Methods A total of 130 childbearing-age breast cancer patients admitted to our hospital were enrolled as research subjects and randomly divided into a control group and an intervention group, with 65 cases in each group. The control group received routine nursing care for breast cancer, while the intervention group was given a positive psychological intervention program based on the PERMA model on the basis of the same routine nursing care. The Psychosocial Adjustment to Illness Scale-Self Report (PAIS-SR) was used to assess the primary outcome of psychosocial adjustment, and the Tennessee Self-Concept Scale (TSCS), Interpersonal Relationship Comprehensive Diagnostic Scale (IRIDS), Social Support Scale (SSS) and Posttraumatic Growth Scale (PTG) were applied to evaluate self-concept, interpersonal relationship, social support and posttraumatic growth, respectively. All above assessments were conducted at baseline, immediately after the intervention and at the 6-month follow-up. Results Childbearing-age breast cancer patients exhibited low psychosocial adjustment. Following positive psychological intervention, the intervention group demonstrated significantly higher scores in all dimensions of the TSCS and SSS, and significantly lower scores in all dimensions of the IRIDS ( P < 0.05). Furthermore, the intervention group scored significantly higher than the control group in all dimensions of the PTG ( P < 0.05). A positive correlation was observed between the total SSS score and the total PTG score (r = 0.635, P < 0.05). Conclusion Positive psychological intervention significantly enhances self-concept, improves interpersonal relationships, strengthens social support, and promotes post-traumatic growth in childbearing-age breast cancer patients, ultimately elevating their level of psychosocial adjustment and enhancing their quality of life.
