Abstract

The current study aimed to evaluate the New Right-Side Water Water treatmeant plant (WTP) in addition to some of the residential neighborhoods that this treatmeant plant feeds, represented by (the raw water collection site, sedimentation basins in two locations, filtration basins in two locations, the water pumping site, the fifth Al-Haramat, the new Mosul and Tal Al-Ruman) by measuring some physical and chemical properties, which including (water temperature, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids, turbidity, pH, total hardness, calcium hardness, magnesium hardness, dissolved oxygen, and biochemical oxygen demand), The results of the study showed clear variations in the values and concentrations of these parameters depending on the months and sampling locations. The average water temperature across all sites under investigation ranged between (12.93–13.87) °C, with no significant variation observed throughout the study period. The average total dissolved solids concentrations ranged between (210.33–215.33) mg/L, while the electrical conductivity ranged between (422.33–431.00) µS/cm. the variation in the values of total dissolved solids and electrical conductivity, all remained within the permissible limits for drinking water; The study also indicated variability in turbidity values, with averages ranging between (0.81–7.26) NTU across the sites. A variation in the efficiency of turbidity removal by sedimentation and filtration units was observed during the study period; however, it was sufficient to reduce turbidity to acceptable levels within drinking water standards. Additionally, the results showed that the pH values across the sites throughout the study ranged between (7.35–7.71), with little variation observed between sites during the study period. All pH values were approximately neutral and within the permissible limits for drinking water; the results revealed variations in total hardness and both calcium and magnesium hardness across the months during the study, yet all values remained within permissible limits for drinking water. The average total hardness ranged between (83.33–90.67) mg/l as CaCO3, calcium hardness between (33.60–48.53) mg/L, and magnesium hardness between (42.13–52.27) mg/L. As for the values of dissolved oxygen and BOD, they were also within the acceptable limits for drinking water, with averages ranging between (11.14–13.22) mg/L for dissolved oxygen and (0.98–2.78) mg/L for BOD.
