Abstract
This Reprint highlights recent advances in intelligent sensors for smart and autonomous vehicles, emphasizing their essential role in perception, localization, and decision-making. It presents progress in sensor fusion, edge AI, and adaptive sensing, while identifying challenges related to robustness, calibration, latency, and cybersecurity. Future research should focus on verifiable, uncertainty-aware multimodal systems to ensure safer, more reliable, and efficient autonomous driving.
