Justification of sections of the modern «Schoolchild Health Passport», based on advances in digital and food technologies and cytogenetic research
Abstract
The incidence of a number of diseases among younger generations of Russians is steadily increasing, despite significant government improvements to school nutrition. Monitoring persistent behavioral patterns continues to reveal alarming trends. High levels of daily consumption of foods that are sources of critical nutrients are noted: sausages (16.0-16.5%), ketchup (8-9%), and mayonnaise (9-10%). Insufficient adherence to healthy eating principles at the family level has been identified: children eat dry food and consume fast food instead of hot meals. Adolescents have a disorganized diet: a significant proportion eat fewer than four times a day and do not eat breakfast before school. Overall, both parents and adolescents have low levels of nutritional literacy. Therefore, the need to develop nationally specialized diets for students with health conditions remains urgent. Specialized diets should be implemented based on a comprehensive assessment of adolescents, which can be accomplished using the «Schoolchild Health Passport.» This document, in addition to the sections previously included, should include a family medical history; the adolescent’s phenotypic characteristics; their elemental profile; food preferences; and the results of cytogenetic studies. Such a comprehensive information set can only be accumulated and analyzed using digital technologies. The use of IT technologies will enable the development of recommendations for physical activity, dietary adjustments, and biomodeling of adolescent nutritional status. The modern «Schoolchild Health Passport» can be implemented in educational institutions and children’s sports clubs after a comprehensive discussion among interested representatives of the medical, pedagogical, educational management, parental, public, religious, and political parties communities.
