Abstract

The tourist complexes correspond to the development trend of the global leisure industry. Since tourism is at its core, they represent a new form of productivity. This article defines the basic concept of urban tourist complexes, summarizes their main characteristics and examines the mechanisms of their formation. It is argued that the transformation of consumption in tourism, the preservation of local cultural heritage, the commercial development of cities, the modernization of the potential for offering tourist services and government support for urban development are the main factors in their formation. Based on the main driving functions of the development of urban tourist complexes, the article classifies the models of development of urban tourist complexes into four types: entertainment, leisure and vacation, convention and exhibition and commercial. Based on this, strategies are proposed to promote the healthy and sustainable development of urban tourist complexes.
