Communication management problems and their solutions in a medical organization
Abstract
In the context of multidisciplinary medical organizations, the effectiveness of communications directly determines the quality of the therapeutic and diagnostic process. The research is aimed at analyzing the problems of communication management in the ICU rapid diagnostic laboratory, where the speed and accuracy of data transmission are critical for clinical decisions. The relevance is due to the direct impact of communication failures on diagnostic errors and patient safety. The aim is to identify management problems in the implementation of the communication function and develop practical solutions based on management theories. The study was conducted from January 2024 to March 2025 from the position of a full-time clinical laboratory diagnostic physician. Methods of system analysis, observation, analysis of documents and statistical data were used. The theoretical basis was the work of M. Mescon, A. Litvinyuk, V. Pugachev. As a result, five key problems have been identified: 1) communication gaps with clinical departments; 2) inefficient use of communication channels leading to data loss; 3) lack of horizontal communications within the laboratory; 4) the «head — subordinate» barrier suppressing error messages; 5) information overload of staff. Specific mechanisms have been proposed for each problem, including the formalization of regulations and communication channels, the introduction of daily meetings and the creation of a culture of openness. The economic rationale confirms that preventing communication errors is cheaper than eliminating their consequences. Conclusion: the implementation of the proposed solutions will systematically improve communication processes, reduce errors and financial losses, increasing the efficiency of the laboratory and related departments. The key success factors are the formalization of procedures, the active use of the information system and the formation of a feedback culture.
