Abstract

This article examines approaches to employee motivation that increase employee engagement without the traditional system of rewards and punishments — the so-called "carrot and stick." It analyzes intrinsic motivation as a key factor in unlocking team potential. Classic motivation theories — Frederick Herzberg’s two-factor theory and Victor Vroom’s expectancy theory — and their practical application in HR management are described. The modern practice of goal setting using the RICH methodology is also discussed, ensuring clarity, recognition, and employee participation in achieving results. It is concluded that creating conditions for intrinsic motivation and emotional engagement of employees contributes to improved business performance and the development of employee potential without the need for a system of rewards and punishments
