Abstract

There is currently a need to develop and test new environmentally friendly, animal science sound, and cost-effective feed additives consisting of plant waste products that will improve poultry productivity and the economic efficiency of poultry production. The purpose of this research was to investigate the impact of charcoal- and pine extract-based feed additives on quail meat and egg production. Three experiments were carried out by using an active charcoal feed additive on young quail and a pine phytogenic feed additive on young quail and laying quail hens. The research examined the growth and development, meat and egg productivity, and economic efficiency of quails Texas White breed were fed a diet containing activated charcoal and bioactive pine extract. The research found that the use of the active charcoal feed additive increased the profitability when rearing of young quails by 10.0–16.4 %. When feeding young quails and laying quail hens with diets containing a coniferous phytogenic feed additive, the profitability of rearing of young quails increased by 10.8–15.2 %, and quail hens egg production by 1.8–3.1 %. It was recommended in order to improve the productivity and cost-effectiveness of rearing of young quails and laying quail hens to complete feed a coniferous phytogenic feed additive at a dosage of 0.4 % by weight of the compound feed throughout the entire rearing period.
