Abstract

When applying chemical methods of water purification in aquaculture, it is necessary to remember about the possible effect of the drug, not only on aquatic organisms, but also on hydrochemical parameters. The aim of the research is to determine the effect of Amsorb water conditioner for aquaculture on the content of ammonium nitrogen, dissolved oxygen, pH level, total water salinity (TDS) in fresh water. A total of 4 groups of containers were used, eight in each, including the control one. As a source of ammonium nitrogen, various amounts of ammonia were added to containers with 10 liters of water: 60; 180; 300; 450; 560; 700 and 950 ml. A similar container with tap water served as a control. An hour after applying the solution, the initial values of the studied hydrochemical parameters were determined in each container. Then, 1g of Amsorb was added to each of the seven containers of the first group, which corresponded to its concentration of 100 mg/l; in the containers of the second group, 2g of the drug (200 mg/l); in the containers of the third group, 3g (300 mg/l) and in the containers of the 4th group, 4g of the studied salt (400 mg/l). A day after the introduction of Amsorb, repeated monitoring of the above parameters was performed, and then such monitoring was carried out daily for 14 days. It was found that Amsorb conditioner in concentrations of 100 and 200 mg/l provides a steady decrease in ammonium nitrogen concentration with wide fluctuations from 1.31 to 16.9 mg of ammonium per day per 1g of applied conditioner. A significant decrease in oxygen dissolved in water has been recorded, which requires water aeration to be applied simultaneously with the air conditioner. At a concentration of 300–400 mg/l in the conditioner water, a decrease in pH below 6.5 and a slight increase in TDS were noted after 3–8 days of observation.
