The Evolution of Russian American Relations under the Trump Administration: The Integration of U. S. Power Politics and the Digital Transformation of Global Supply Chains
Abstract
The period of Donald Trump's presidency (2017–2021, 2025–2029) is a turning point in Russian-American relations. His administration's foreign policy was characterized by a unique symbiosis of hard power politics and the strategic use of digital technologies to reconfigure global economic ties. This article analyzes how this combination affected the dynamics of relations with Russia, creating a paradoxical situation of declared confrontation in the absence of a direct military clash and redirecting strategic rivalry into the fi eld of technology and supply chain control. The Trump administration has officially marked the return of the era of “great power competition,” where Russia and China have been declared strategic adversaries. However, unlike the classic Cold War, the new confrontation unfolded in the context of the digital revolution. Washington's policy during this period was not just a military buildup, but a comprehensive strategy where military pressure and technological dominance became two sides of the same coin, aimed at changing the rules of the global game.
