M-TEER in Poland: A national success story with significant room for improvement
Abstract
Mitral Valve Repair MitraClip Device in Patients With Severe Secondary Mitral Regurgitation) [2], and the recently published RESHAPE-HF2 (Randomized Investigation of the MitraClip Device in Heart Failure: 2nd Trial in Patients With Clinically Significant Functional Mitral Regurgitation) [3] have established the evidentiary basis for transcatheter edge-to-edge repair in patients with severe mitral regurgitation (MR).However, the translation of these results into daily clinical practice across different centers, ethnicities, countries, and healthcare systems invariably requires validation through large-scale real-world registries. In this issue of Polish Heart Journal, Wojakowski et al. [4] present the first comprehensive nationwide analysis of transcatheter mitral edge-to-edge repair in Poland, derived from an all-comers administrative database including 1204 patients treated between 2019 and 2023.The principal strength of this study lies in its confirmation of procedural safety at a national level.Despite high baseline complexity, in-hospital mortality was low (3.2%) and procedural success was high (97.7%).
