Abstract

This paper examines interregional migration in Russia. The study aims to explain migration flows using a gravity model. The author tested the hypotheses of interest by incorporating several additional economic and non-economic factors into the model. The study's significance stems from migration's impact on regional and national prosperity, and the necessity of predicting these movements. The paper proposes new methods for constructing individual additional variables. Moreover, it demonstrates the use of a distinct variable representing multilateral resistance, typically found in trade discussions, within the field of migration studies. The study's methodology includes econometric (regression) analysis based on panel data. In addition, the paper includes a preliminary empirical analysis using data visualization. Economic elements like income, unemployment, and housing significantly influence internal migration, according to the findings. Regarding non-economic factors, the gained estimates back up the importance of climate conditions and suggest that a single element does not dictate air pollution levels.
