Abstract

This article analyzes the perceptions of residents in the city of Bissau, capital of Guinea-Bissau, regarding solid waste management, highlighting Environmental Education (EE) as a strategy for social mobilization and transformation. The qualitative approach enabled an understanding of representations, beliefs, and levels of engagement in relation to urban environmental issues. Questionnaires were applied to residents from different neighborhoods, complemented by bibliographic and documentary analysis. The results indicate weaknesses in public policies and emphasize EE as a promoter of sustainable practices, reinforcing the importance of citizen participation and shared responsibility in addressing environmental challenges.
