Abstract

Assuming that cinema and visual arts have the potential to raise awareness and educate about sustainability, this article analyzes the perceptions of the participating audience (n=180) of the 1st UEMG Ecofalante Film Festival, combined with a survey of the curricula of higher education courses in cinema and visual arts registered with the Ministry of Education (MEC) offered by Brazilian federal universities (n=87). The results show that 89% of participants believe that the film debate contributed to their awareness of contemporary socio-environmental challenges. However, only 25% of the courses analyzed have mandatory courses on environmental issues.
