THE IMPACT OF INSTITUTIONAL AND INFORMAL SUPPORT STRUCTURES ON BUSINESS SUSTAINABILITY
Abstract
This research examines the important role of institutional and informal support frameworks in supporting business sustainability.By also analyzing formal institutional arrangements and informal support mechanisms in a systematic way, the research aims to understand the role these complementary systems play in influencing business practices, and the focus is particularly on sustainable development and green entrepreneurship.A thorough review of the literature is made to investigate the impact of social trust, institutional asymmetry and cultural norms on the sustainability initiatives taken by firms operating in different sectors. The results suggest that a dualsupport paradigm-a new view of business that includes formal institutions, which provide the regulatory structures, and the use of informal networks such as social capital or trust, which enable the supportive elements of cooperative behavior and resources to be mobilized within communities-is very beneficial for businesses.Furthermore, the study highlights the challenges posed by institutional vacuums and the mismatching between the formal and informal institutional systems and how this can hinder the implementation of effective sustainability practices.
