Abstract

Abstract Ensuring food quality, safety, and sustainability requires innovative strategies that reduce dependence on chemical inputs while enhancing nutritional outcomes. This review examines the synergistic integration of nanoparticles and bioinoculants as a novel platform in food-oriented agriculture and biotechnology. Nanoparticles provide precision delivery of nutrients and protective functions for microbial inoculants, while bioinoculants enhance nutrient cycling, stress tolerance, and food raw material quality. Together, these systems can improve crop yield by approximately 20–35%, reduce fertilizer use by 30–50%, enhance micronutrient density and protein content, and support safer edible crops by lowering chemical residues. Applications extend to food biotechnology, environmental remediation for safer food production, and industrial processes such as biofuel and waste-to-value conversion. However, challenges remain, including nanoparticle accumulation in food chains, ecological risks, regulatory gaps, and high production costs. Future research should prioritize biodegradable nanomaterials, engineered microbial strains, and advanced monitoring tools to ensure consumer protection and nutritional benefits. By addressing these barriers, nano–bio platforms could play a pivotal role in shaping safer, more nutritious, and sustainable food systems.
