Abstract

An important factor influencing a country's sustainable development and resilience to demographic changes is the decision of young doctors regarding their workplace after completing their studies. Therefore, it is crucial to identify the factors that may encourage medical personnel to consider working in smaller towns or rural areas. The phenomenon of doctor migration in Poland remains insufficiently studied; therefore, this publication aims to determine the factors influencing decision-making in this area. Based on the results of a pilot survey conducted in April 2023 among 29 third-year medical students at the Ministry of National Defence Medical Faculty in Łódź, key determinants influencing their decisions regarding workplace selection after graduation were identified. The factors affecting this choice included opportunities for professional development, availability of preferred specialisations, working conditions, salary and factors related to access to green spaces, workplace atmosphere, and family relationships.
