Abstract

Within the context of a paradigmatic shift from the biomedical to the biopsychosocial model of health, the study of the Internal Picture of Health (IPH) as a complex psychological construct gains relevance. This article is dedicated to a theoretical analysis of the genesis, structure, and determinants of IPH formation. It is substantiated that the modern understanding of IPH has evolved from a passive perception of somatic state to an active construction of health, wherein the individual acts as the subject of health-preserving activity. The main theoretical and methodological approaches to studying IPH are systematized: systemic, personal, developmental, and cultural-historical. It is established that the most relevant is a componential, rather than a level-based, model of the IPH structure, integrating cognitive, emotional, motivational-valuable, and behavioral components. Particular attention is paid to the ontogeny of IPH, during which the internalization of social norms and health standards occurs. The family is identified as a key agent in the formation of a child's IPH through mechanisms of social modeling and direct and indirect influence.
