Abstract

In recent years, an increased rate of neurodegenerative diseases (especially Alzheimer’s disease, mildcognitive disorders, Parkinson’s disease and post cerebrovascular accident sequelae) has been noticed globally among people older than 60 years old. In this context, an increasing awareness of nonpharmacological interventions that could influence the symptoms, the role and the life quality of these patients is required. Various types of physical exercise (aerobic exercise, endurance training, combined exercises, dance therapy, BFKTR (Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation) and recuperation have been studied for their neuroprotective, neuroplastic and functional potential. The aim of this review is to put forward a synthesis from literature, to compare representative studies, to emphasize the evidence and to advance practical recommendations for physical exercise integration in the therapeutic plan of neurodegenerative disease patients.
